SHORT BUT SWEET

A majority of us have a lot of free time on our hands and are anxiously awaiting someone to give us something to do… okay, back up… Now the first comment may not be true at all and the last thing we have time for is 3 hours of exercise let alone 1 hour.  But you CAN get a lot of things you want from exercise and more with a lot less than an hour.

Studies for quite some time have reported how 10 minutes of walking a day can decrease risk of heart disease, cancers, etc. but just a little bit more can give you even more than you expected.  Recent studies have reported a short & intense workout can also improve cardiovascular health, decrease risk of disease AND aid in increasing muscle mass & ultimate weight loss as well as improve body/movement awareness and balance.

If you are an intense person or if you can barely stand exercise this concept will fit you perfectly!  Twenty minutes gives you time to complete a circuit training session, a jump rope series, a lifting session with minimal breaks, a short game of tennis or raquetball.  Try wind sprints with a walk back to the start… I am proud to say I can still beat my 9 year old nephew in a foot race!  :)

Remember too, if you think you get bored with exercise your body does too!  Stimulating it with new activities that are short and intense forces the body to adapt in all systems of the body including but not limited to muscoloskeletal, circulatory, lymph, and nervous systems.  Your body has an innate ability to adapt and ultimately heal … use this and challenge your body to be better.

Short but sweet workouts bring on intensity, intensity brings on focus, focus brings on specificity, and specificity brings more bang for your buck.  Fluidity Physical Therapy incorporates this very concept not only in healing but ultimate body health…let us help you make exercise effective AND fun!
